Elmira Jackals Youth Hockey is a Tier II organization playing in the Central Section of the New York State Amateur Hockey Association.

Mini Mites
Description: This program is designed to meet needs of the beginning player. Basic skills will be taught in a non-competitive environment. Fun, physical development and a social environment are stressed.
Ages: 3-7
Practices: Once per week, typically early Saturday morning.
Season Length:

2, 8 week sessions

Session 1: November-December
Session 2: January- February
Games: No organized competitive games are involved however some fun games may be organized by the coaches from time to time.
Travel: None.
Equipment Required: Skates and helmet. Highly Recommended to have shin guards, elbow pads, and gloves (mittens OK at this level). Sticks may be used
Provided by League: Jersey.
Cost: $125 per session
Mites (8 and Under House Program)
Description: This program is designed to provide opportunities to play for enjoyment, fitness, relaxation, and fellowship. Skill development and team concepts are stressed rather than winning.
Ages: 8 and under.
Practices: 2-3 hours per week. Typically weeknights or weekend mornings.
Season Length: October - February.
Games: In-house games are typically held every week.
Travel: Tournaments are optional- how many and location decided by team.
Equipment Required: Skates, helmet, stick, shin guards, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shoulder pads, mouth guard. Recommended: neck guard, hockey socks.

Travel / Snowbelt Programs
Description: A 'Highly Competitive' program for boys and girls divided into four age groups, known as Squirt, Pee-Wee, Bantam and Midget. Two leagues, called Travel and Snowbelt are typically involved. Levels of play differ slightly among the leagues however all are very highly competitive leagues. Placement is determined by evaluations.  Skaters who do not try out are generally placed in the Snowbelt league. Checking begins at the Bantam level.
  • Squirts 9-10
  • PeeWees 11-12
  • Bantams 13-14
  • Midgets 15-18
Practices: 2-3 hours per week. Typically weeknights.
Season Length: September- March
Games: Typically a minimum of 16 per season (2-3 per week).
Travel: Extensive- 45 minutes to 4+ hours drive time for away games.
Equipment Required: Skates, helmet (black preferred), stick, shin guards, elbow pads, gloves (black preferred), hockey pants (black perferred), cup (for males), shoulder pads, mouth guard. Recommended: neck guard.
Provided by League: Uniforms are at a cost to the player
Cost: Squirts- $875; PeeWees & Bantams- $900; Midgets- TBD



Tryouts for Travel teams will occur in March or April for the following season.  Tryouts usually occur over two-three days; specific dates and times will be posted to the website as soon as they are scheduled. 

Evaluations for Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, and Midget snowbelt teams will be held at the start of the season in September/ October of each year.

Evaluations for Mites and Mini Mites are done at their first practice(s) at the start of the season- usually October/ November. 


Registration opens in July and stays open for about 3 months- watch the website for specific dates and details.
