The following policies are enacted by the Board of the Elmira Jackals Youth Hockey Organization to ensure compliance with the rules and regulations governing not for profit corporations:

Fundraising

Teams will be allowed to fundraise at a team level, however this shall not replace league level fundraising obligations.
  • 50/50 or similar small (under $100.00 anticipated total sales) raffles at individual games do not require approval or notification, and the proceeds shall be maintained by the team manager or coach, or may turned over to the league treasurer. The league fundraiser shall be informed of fundraisers with expected proceeds of over $100.
  • Team level fundraising must not compete or conflict with any league wide fundraising activities.
  • Fundraising activities that require the use of the EJYH Logo or EJYH Name must be approved through the league fundraiser. 
  • The league fundraiser should be aware of all fundraising activities to promote them within our league and to ensure that any given team fundraiser is not of similar nature and in competition with another team’s fundraising efforts.
 
Donations & Sponsorship
  • Any corporate sponsorships should be directed and managed by the Board of Directors. Individual teams should not be soliciting public contributions.
  • Team families with personal connections to local business owners can request sponsorships with the prior notification and approval of the league fundraiser.  All donations must be managed by the board treasurer.  For tracking purposes, checks, along with a written statement by the donor for its intended team and use, should go through the league fundraiser, either delivered in person or sent to

  • In the event the intended use is not consistent with the laws governing not for profit corporations, the donor shall be given the opportunity to modify their request, rescind the donation/sponsorship, or allow the league to treat the donation/sponsorship as general revenue.
  • Sponsoring businesses will be recognized on our league’s website under the individual team’s page to which they donated.  Donors requesting a tax receipt should state so in the written statement provided with donation check.
  • Thank you cards recognizing the donation are the responsibility of the team manager. 
  • IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT THE LEAGUE FUNDRAISER BE AWARE OF TEAM DONATIONS IN ADVANCE OF APPROACH SO THE PROPER RECOGNITION AND RECEIPTS CAN BE ISSUED.  Failure to do so may result in the individual teams not being credited for donations.
